Every living thing holds a boundary
A gene inside its helix, DNA inside a nucleus, a cell inside its membrane and wall, a family inside a home. Ownership begins as the ability to hold a boundary around what sustains you.
None of these are opinions about politics. They are observations about how living things persist — stated so that a citizen can act on them this week.

A gene inside its helix, DNA inside a nucleus, a cell inside its membrane and wall, a family inside a home. Ownership begins as the ability to hold a boundary around what sustains you.
Cells specialised and traded to build organisms no single cell could sustain. Lichen, coral, gut flora and the mitochondrion all show that partnership — not only competition — creates new life forms.
Fitness means fit to a setting. Change the payoffs in the setting and you change which behaviour spreads. Policy is environment design, whether or not it is done deliberately.
An arrangement is evolutionarily stable when a rare alternative strategy cannot do better inside it. Representative democracy passes this test. Wage-only labor, on the record, does not.
The exercise of free choice in all of life's domains, and the ownership of the fruits of your labor free of third-party interference. Claim both, and pay the lawful tax that funds their protection.
Ownership plus time is what retires a household without dependence on government. It requires no unusual return — only a share that appreciates and the years to let it.
A cooperative act costs C to its performer and yields B to its recipient. Harvard's Program for Evolutionary Dynamics has shown five conditions under which cooperation beats defection — and each maps onto win-win public policy.
B / C > 1 / R
We help those most closely related to us. R is the coefficient of relatedness — one half for a sibling, one quarter for a nephew.
Policy · Household savings, inheritance, family enterprise.
B / C > 1 / W
I scratch your back, you scratch mine. W is the probability of another round of engagement between the same two players.
Policy · Vesting equity, long contracts, tenure.
B / C > 1 / Q
You help others in a community that values reputation. Q is the probability that another person knows your reputation.
Policy · Disclosure, audit, portable records.
B / C > K
You help those in closest proximity because your interests are shared. K is the average number of neighbours per person.
Policy · Local ownership, co-operatives, community capital.
B / C > 1 + N + M
Groups of cooperators outcompete groups of defectors. N is group size and M the number of groups in competition.
Policy · Broad-based employee ownership at national scale.
